Calling all ninjas…
Calling all ninjas…

There's been an upsurge recently for creative job titles, according to listings on such as LinkUp - from ninjas and wizards to 'masters' and gurus – but does this improve the appeal or visibility of a listing?
Whilst the recruiter in question may feel they're showing that they're 'down with the kids', or whether they believe a more zany, creative approach is warranted given the job they're advertising, does the inclusion of off-the-wall monikers actually make a difference to whether candidates apply?
To some, it probably won't, but to the more conscientious, having 'Accounts Ninja' on their C.V. may be a cause for embarrassment they won't ever shake off. Not only that, but the credibility of both the employer and of the role itself could suffer in the shallow pursuit of social media click-throughs or 'sharing' activity.
Recruiters may think terms like the above are clever, a way for their advert to stand out from the crowd or so that those who play things too safe are weeded out at the first hurdle - or perhaps a way to appeal to the self-confessed 'geeks' amongst us. However, a person's career is a serious issue, and it's the applicant, not the recruiter, who'll eventually be answering as the 'Customer Complaints Magician' when the phone rings. It may raise a smile when the listing goes live but think of the poor soul whose reputation is at stake.
Though 'manager' or 'advisor' are less flamboyant titles in comparison, from a consumer's point of view, they offer no confusion – people know what they're going to get and who to seek out for a particular issue. Would you imagine they'd be as comfortable asking for the 'technical support warrior'?
There's no doubt that it's hard for listings to stand out or differentiate from one another, but if an applicant is searching for that particular job, they'll dig deep, as it's in their interest to do so. Offering a rewarding career and a competitive package will grab people's attention just as much, if not more so, than any Lord of the Rings' code or trendy buzzword.
Your website needs to be as confident in its message and credibility; zany design or gimmicks rarely hold attention. For advice on your web presence, or to discuss your digital needs, call Fast Recruitment Website Design on 01302 288591.
