Apprentice-style candidates seem in demand…

As a new series rolls out featuring Alan Sugar's search for a new scapegoat, sorry, sidekick, a recent survey by Robert Half UK shows that 52% of the HR directors asked would plump for a candidate who mirrors the traits commonly seen on the hit programme.
Intelligence was the most desired characteristic (34%; though intelligence on The Apprentice seems inherent only in the series' editors...!), with a good work ethic (27%) and an innate competitive streak or ambitious drive (27%) close behind. The latter is certainly what makes the BBC1 show riveting as contestants continually try and appear better than the others.
Conversely, the same trait was also picked out as the worst in the study – albeit, when it's exaggerated - with 45% saying over-competitiveness was enough to turn down an applicant. It seems there's a fine line between a confident attitude and egotistical behaviour.
Encouraging findings from the research showed aptitude was as desired as necessary skills; recruiters don't expect successful candidates to have every box ticked – they're willing to train the right person. However, personality, or those who seem to have the gift of the gab, doesn't sway many people – the HR directors surveyed said 'a good personality' was of little value, certainly if not backed up by skills, experience or knowledge.
Although Lord Sugar and the TV production company may favour the limelight-huggers and the more bolshie candidates in the earlier rounds because they make for good viewing, once it comes down to handing over his money or offering a role in his company, Sugar appears to value skill and competence over the ability to shout the loudest.
Is it the role of the recruiting agent to point out less-desirable traits in candidates, should they see these displayed? If applicants are too eager, too brash, or fail to show a good attitude, do they only find out the hard way that these are deal-breakers – if, indeed, they ever do?
What do you think? Would you warn someone if they displayed traits that would mean they're the last to be hired?
